How to Start Feeling More Confident in Your Body: My Personal Experience
Feeling confident in your body is a journey, and it’s one that I’ve been on for a long time. Like many people, I’ve had my fair share of struggles with body image, but over time, I’ve learned how to love who I am and feel more comfortable in my own skin. Here’s what has helped me along the way, and I hope it can help you too!
1. Focus on What Your Body Can Do
For a long time, I was fixated on how my body looked, constantly comparing myself to others and feeling like I didn’t measure up. But then I started shifting my focus to what my body can do instead of just how it looks. I began to appreciate my body for its strength, endurance, and the simple fact that it allows me to experience life — whether that’s walking, dancing, or hugging loved ones. And I realized there is no reason to hate it.
WHAT HELPED ME: Try to notice the amazing things your body does for you every day. This could be as simple as taking a walk, carrying groceries, or even just breathing deeply. When you focus on your body’s capabilities, it’s easier to feel gratitude and pride.

2. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
Comparison is a confidence killer. I spent too much time comparing myself to others, and feeling worse about my body. But I realized that everyone’s body is different, and what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. Once I stopped comparing myself to others and started focusing on my own journey, I felt much more at peace with my body.
WHAT HELPED ME: Limit your time on social media!!! Especially if you find yourself feeling down after looking at others’ posts. Instead, focus on your personal progress and the things you love about yourself.

3. Wear Clothes That Make You Feel Good
I used to buy clothes that I thought would make me look thinner or more like someone else. But those clothes never made me feel good. Over time, I started choosing outfits that made me feel comfortable and confident, regardless of trends or other people’s opinions. When I wear clothes that fit well and express my style, I notice an immediate boost in how I feel about my body.
WHAT HELPED ME: Take the time to find clothes that fit well and make you feel good. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles until you find what makes you feel confident and comfortable.
4. Incorporate Stress Relief into Your Routine
Stress can have a huge impact on how we feel about our bodies. When I’m stressed, I tend to be more critical of myself and focus on perceived flaws. I’ve found that incorporating stress relief activities into my routine helps me feel more relaxed and positive about my body. Whether it’s through yoga, meditation, or simply taking time to unwind with a good book, managing stress has been crucial in boosting my body confidence.
WHAT HELPED ME: Find stress-relief activities that work for you and make them a regular part of your routine. When your mind is at ease, it’s much easier to feel confident and comfortable in your own skin. The thing that helped me the most is a guidebook, that is linked HERE. Remember, It’s never a waste of money if you invest in yourself!

5. Practice Positive Self-Talk
For years, I was my own worst critic, constantly picking apart every little thing I didn’t like about my body. But I learned that negative self-talk only makes things worse. I started practicing positive affirmations and speaking to myself with kindness. When I looked in the mirror, instead of focusing on what I didn’t like, I began to compliment myself on what I did like.
WHAT HELPED ME: Every day, try to say something positive about your body. Look in the mirror and compliment yourself. It might feel awkward at first, but over time, these positive affirmations can help shift your mindset and improve your body confidence. I learned this from a book called Self Talk. You can learn more about different methods HERE!

6. Surround Yourself with Positivity
The people we surround ourselves with can greatly influence how we feel about our bodies. I realized that certain people in my life were constantly making negative comments about their own bodies or others’, and it was impacting how I saw myself. I made an effort to spend more time with people who are body-positive and who encourage me to love myself as I am.
WHAT HELPED ME: Pay attention to the people you spend time with and the content you consume. Seek positive influencers, friends, and communities that promote self-love and acceptance. My personal favourite influencer is Shana Minei Spence.

REMEMBER!
Learning to feel confident in your body is a process, and it doesn’t happen overnight. For me, it’s been about changing the way I think, choosing to focus on the positive, and surrounding myself with supportive people. If you’re struggling with body confidence, remember that you’re not alone. Start with small steps. Over time, these changes can help you feel more comfortable and confident in your own skin.
